The 2017 Annual General Meeting of CCICED was successfully held in Beijing


The 2017 Annual General Meeting of China Council for International Cooperation Committee on Environment and Development (CCICED) was held in Beijing at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse from 9 to 11 December 2017. The theme of the event was “Ecological Civilization in Action: A Common Green Future for the New Era”.

During the meeting, Mr. Li Ganjie, Minister of Environmental Protection, delivered a keynote speech entitled “Enhancing the Construction of Ecological Civilization and Building the Harmonious Coexistence of Men and Nature”. In recent years, said Mr. Li Ganjie, China has continued to improve its environmental quality. While solving domestic problems, China has also actively participated in global environmental governance and approved the participation to more than 20 multilateral conventions and protocols related to the environment. China also has vigorously promoted the “The Belt and Road” initiative in the green sector, provided support to the Global South-South Cooperation in environmental protection, and become a significant participant, contributor and global leader in the construction of ecological civilization.

Mr. Francesco La Camera, Director General of the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea and CCICED Council Member, took part as a panelist in the Forum entitled: “Global Ocean Governance and Eco-civilization”, on December 9. On December 10, Mr. La Camera attended the Plenary Session of the Annual General Meeting of CCICED, actively taking part to general discussion and recommendations’ definition. Finally, Mr. La Camera joined the high-level participants in the Forum entitled: “Clean Energy Strategy and Climate Change”.

Mr. Erik Solheim, CCICED Vice Chairperson and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program, pointed out that China’s policies toward the field of environmental protection have achieved success. China plays a tremendously significant role in the world, and Chinese government has an important impact on international negotiations, he argued. Moreover, he stated that, in the field of technological development, China also needs to play a role in the development of new technologies, in order to achieve mutual benefit and a win-win result.
